The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
