Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the traitor.
